Materials |
- AA battery.
- Insulated copper wire (about 20-30 cm). - Neodymium magnet (small). - Paper clips. - Tape (electrical tape works best). - Scissors or wire cutters. |
Steps |
1. Wind the Coil: Wrap the copper wire around the battery 10-15 times to create a coil. Leave about 5 cm of wire on each end. 2. Strip the Ends: Use scissors or wire cutters to strip the insulation off the ends of the wire. 3. Create the Rotor: Bend the ends of the wire so that they can stand upright. These will act as supports for the coil. 4. Build the Base: Straighten the paper clips and tape one end of each paper clip to the ends of the battery. These will act as the base and contacts. 5. Place the Magnet: Place the neodymium magnet on top of the battery, centered. 6. Complete the Circuit: Balance the coil on the paper clips so the ends of the wire make contact. The coil should start spinning if the circuit is complete. |
Safety Tips |
- Wear safety glasses: Protect your eyes from any unexpected movements or wire pieces. - Handle magnets carefully: Neodymium magnets are strong and can pinch skin. - Ensure good ventilation: If using any adhesives or solvents, ensure the area is well-ventilated. |
